Academic writing is analytical. It should tell us something we do not already know and change ideas, preconceptions and thoughts. |
Although grammar is fundamental to writing, formal and academic writing is also concerned with tone, word choice, sentence structure and precision.
Perhaps most importantly, do we write for ourselves or our reader? |
What you will learn

Specifically designed for non-native English speakers, this course takes you through the fundamentals of academic and formal writing.
This course provides detailed examples, as well as explaining why we do certain things. In addition, we not only show and explain errors, so you know what to avoid and why, but also good and poor writing practices. |
We look at which grammatical structures are required and which are not; the difference between informal and formal writing styles.
Furthermore, we see how wordiness confuses and hides meaning, how concision and precision takes time, and how word choice affects readers. |
