MASTERING FORMAL & ACADEMIC WRITING
PRESENTIAL

This intensive course is designed to help your improve your writing in formal English genres such as business correspondence, reports, research articles and essays.

CONTENT

Focus
During this course, our themes cover:
  • writing style and structure
  • indefinite language
  • grammatical structures and their use
  • vocabulary and corpus
  • making your sentences flow
  • register awareness

You will be expected to produce texts and submit these for feedback (focusing on language proficiency and  effectiveness).

Result
Upon completion of the course, you will have enhanced  your understanding of:
  • general English proficiency 
  • knowing how to find the right word
  • avoiding common grammatical errors
  • how to use an appropriate register and style
  • structuring and organising your text

Format
  • five weekly meetings of four hours
  • spaces are limited to ten persons
  • meetings involve a combination of lecture, discussion and practical language training
  • assignments after each class, ranging from shorter texts to grammar exercises
  • participants should be prepared to do approximately 20 hours of work, in addition to presential time.

The Mastering Formal and Academic Writing presential course will run for five consecutive weeks unless otherwise notified.

The minimum English level required is B2/ C1: if you are unsure of your English level, please let us know.

In addition:

  • start dates may change depending on demand

  • courses are conducted in English
  • a minimum of five participants will be needed to run a course
  • there is a maximum of twelve participants per course

  • once your place has been confirmed, you will be sent payment details
  • payment must be received before the course starts
  • there are no refunds once your course starts
  • if you have paid and unable to start your course, your fee will be refunded: you may be charged an administration fee
